WEST PAPUA PROVINCE BATIK

Batik from West Papua is actually almost same with the other types of batik along the archipelago. If Solo and Jogja batik motifs are made symmetrically, in Papua it is the opposite. The combination of bright colors combined with ethnic motifs of Papua are often asymmetrical to make batik Papua look exotic.

Most of the motifs of Batik Papua show elements of natural and cultural areas of Papua. For the famous animal motif are birds of paradise, lizards and crocodiles.

Other inspirations come from traditional sculptures, such asmat motive, which is symbols of Asmat tribal statues (having the color of terracotta terracotta color collaboration), Sentani motif with the characteristic of a circular wooden groove with a kind of color only one or two colors.
